HEAD-TO-HEAD: how do riders stack up against each other in 2024?

Seven rounds down in 2024, and plenty of stories to tell from teammate head-to-head battles as the second half of 2024 gets started

The second half of the 2024 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship is well underway and there’s a clear idea of who’s leading their teammates in the head-to-head fights, with some battles considerably closer than others. Check out some of the stats that have come from the rounds completed so far below.

CLOSE AT DUCATI: Bautista leads 11-10 over rookie Bulega

Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) holds a slender advantage of teammate Nicolo Bulega, with the #1 11-10 up after 21 races. However, in Superpole, it’s advantage Bulega with the rookie 7-0 up when setting the grid. In terms of average positions, Bulega averages 3.86 while Bautista is 5.16 when he takes the chequered flag; Bulega’s average is the second-best on the WorldSBK grid while this translates to a 39 points per round average, over seven more than Bautista.

RAZGATLIGOLU ON TOP AT BMW: breaking records and leading BMW’s charge

Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) has 15 wins this season including in the last 13 races, and it shows with his record against Michael van der Mark. He’s 19-2 up in races against the #60 while he also leads 7-0 in Superpole. ‘El Turco’ averages an incredible 1.85 when finishing races and it’s similar in Superpole, averaging 1.86 in the 15-minute sessions, compared to 8.4 and 10.86 for his teammate. Razgatlioglu’s points per round average is 52.14, which is very similar to Bautista’s average from 2023 (52.33).

ADVANTAGE, ALEX LOWES: the #22 extends his lead over Bassani

Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) has the same score over Axel Bassani that Razgatlioglu does over van Mark, leading ‘El Bocia’ 19-2 in races and 7-0 in Superpole. Lowes is having a very good season and averages P4 when finishing the races, and 4.57 in Superpole; for Bassani, it’s 11.56 and 14.71. Lowes is currently averaging 30.43 points per round after securing rostrum finishes in all but one round in 2024.

LOCATELLI LEADS YAMAYA’S CHARGE: 14-7 up in races, 6-1 in Superpole

Andrea Locatelli (Pata Prometeon Yamaha) is on top at the Yamaha team after seven rounds, leading six-time Champion Jonathan Rea 14-7 in races and 6-1 in Superpole although the pair have been closely matched in recent rounds. ‘Loka’ averages 6.85 in races while Rea’s average is 9.28; that’s improved in recent rounds as he makes gains on the R1.

LECUONA BEATING VIERGE: closely matched at Honda

Iker Lecuona (Team HRC) is on top at Team HRC despite missing two rounds, leading teammate Xavi Vierge 9-6 in the five rounds that can be compared between the two, while it’s 3-2 to Lecuona in Superpole. Both riders average a finishing position outside of the top ten as they look to make gains on the CBR0100RR-R.
